Caistor Roman Project invites you to visit our 2025 Summer Excavation at the Caistor Hall Hotel, Caistor St Edmund

Open Day 1:  Saturday 23rd August

Open Day 2: Saturday 30th August

  • View the 2025 trenches and see what our archaeological team have uncovered
  • Free archaeologically-themed family activities running throughout the day
  • Limited advanced booking for Guided Site Tours via Eventbrite (see below)
  • Merchandise stall, with proceeds supporting the Caistor Roman Project
  • Designated picnic area for those who wish to use it (bring your own rug or chair!)

 

Free parking is available on a first-come basis at the Caistor Hall Hotel, Stoke Road, Caistor St Edmund, Norwich NR14 8QN.  The Open Day events are located in a grassy paddock within the hotel grounds. A designated access route to reach the site from the car park will be signposted on the day.

Children must be accompanied by parents/carers for the duration of their visit.

Dogs are welcome on site, provided they have a well-behaved owner and are kept on a short lead at all times.

Guided Site Tours

Guided Site Tours will be run twice on each Open Day  starting at 10:00 and 14:00.  The tours will include an official Project introduction, trench tour and finds presentation sessions.  Tours must be pre-booked through Eventbrite at a cost of £8.00 per adult, children free of charge (and please bring along your proof of booking on arrival): search for ‘Caistor Roman Project’.

Family Activities

A range of archaeologically-themed drop-in activities will be on offer between 10:00 and 15:00.  These include crafting, metal-detecting, finds handling, ancient board games, quizzes, and storytelling.
